Christmas is a joyful time of the year, a time for thinking about other and giving.
For thieves across West Midlands it's time for talking!
Make sure your Christmas isn't ruined by following some key advice to help keep you and your family safe this Christmas.
At home… If you are going out at night, make sure you leave a light on, close your curtains and securely lock all your windows and doors.
Make sure that Christmas presents under the tree can not be seen from the street.
If you are going away for a while ask a friend or relative to take in your post, close your curtains at night and leave a light on.
After Christmas remove any trace of expensive packaging buy taking discarded boxes to the tip or recycling centre.
Out shopping… Always make sure you are aware of your surroundings and keep your shopping and valuables close.
Keep your bag closed and close to you at all times.
Close your purse and put it away before you leave the till.
Try not to overload yourself with bags and coats.
Avoid carrying your wallet or purse in a back trouser pocket.
Keep cash secure and out of sight.
Don't leave your handbag, pushchair or shopping trolley unattended.
Always take personal belongings into changing rooms with you.
Do not leave shopping on view in a car- lock everything in the boot.
Out about… Pubs, restaurants and other venues will be crowded so do not leave bags over the back of your chair and keep wallets and purses close to your body.
If you use a handbag, always keep a tight hold of it and ensure the zip or clasp is always fastened and facing towards you.
Carry wallets in an inside pocket.
If someone bumps into you, make sire your purse or wallet is still in your possession.
Do not carry more money than you need.
On a night out, stay with friends and make sure you know how you getting home.
